Trinidad “Trini” Mercado was born on May 24, 1937, in Anaheim, California, to Virginia and Jose Canales. In 1961, she married Ruben Mercado, and together they had four children: Ruben Jr., Gina, Frankie, and Tina. Trini’s love and care extended to her large and growing family, and she was blessed to be survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Marie Castillo, and her brother, Armando Canales.
Trini graduated from Anaheim High School in 1955. From an early age, she embraced hard work and dedication, always driven by her desire to care for her family. She began her career as a beautician right out of high school, proudly purchasing her first new car through her own efforts. Her work journey included time at Kwikset and many years at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School as a beloved teacher’s aide until her retirement. Even then, her passion for helping others continued, as she worked part-time at Vista Drugstore.
Trini was known not only for her strong work ethic but also for her incredible talent as a cook. Her delicious meals were the centerpiece of countless family gatherings and special events. Her kitchen was a place filled with love, laughter, and delicious aromas that left lasting memories for all who had the joy of sitting at her table.
Above all, Trini’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—a true matriarch who nurtured her family with unwavering love and support. Her loyalty, kindness, and thoughtfulness made her a treasured sister, aunt, and friend to many. She cared patiently and lovingly for her parents and extended that same compassion to anyone fortunate enough to know her.
Trini’s vibrant spirit shone through her love for fun times spent with family and friends. Whether she was traveling to Laughlin, Las Vegas, or embarking on a cruise, she embraced life with excitement and joy. Her trips were filled with laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories.
Her faith and Christ-like love were at the core of everything she did. She lived with honesty, loyalty, and a generous heart, touching countless lives along the way. Trini will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy of love and strength will live on in their hearts forever."*" indicates required fields
