George was born to Juan and Guadalupe Ramos Barrera on February 22, 1935, in Fullerton, California and passed away on August 20, 2024, in Lakeside, Arizona. He was the eleventh child of twelve children born to his parents. George was the last sibling of their generation to pass away. As a young man George was drafted into the United States service in 1958-1964, during the Korean War. He returned with full honors to a grateful family. He was one of five siblings in the service. George attended the University of California at Fullerton where he played football and baseball. He was a talented athlete who loved playing sports and at one time tried out for a professional NFL team. As a young man he worked hard and had many successful businesses. He genuinely loved his family and started one of his own, having two sons, George Jr., and John Wayne Barrera in addition to stepchildren Gary, Raymond, Sherry, and David. George was not only a beloved father to his sons, and grandfather to Travis, Nicholas, Oakley, Jake, Trina, Jacob, Josh, Danielle, Aaron, and Nicole; great grandfather to Paige, Kadin, Sailor, Abby and great great grandfather to Zavien, as well as a beloved and loving brother and uncle to many nieces and nephews from his 11 siblings. While we cherish the wonderful and memorable sport achievements and leadership role that filled him with pride for his family, we celebrate his contributions to the community as a good friend and neighbor. George will be missed by his family and so many others for the good man he was.
