22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518Agnes Evelyn (Bosse) Porter was born in Oklahoma on May 9, 1930, to Albert and Eleanor (Johannes) Bosse. At a young age she and her parents moved to Schleswig, IA.
Agnes had many jobs growing up, from babysitting and delivering newspapers and milk in glass bottles every morning to working at the telephone company. She was the youngest of four operators on a switchboard handling all incoming and outgoing calls for the town of Schleswig and the surrounding farm areas. She eventually worked up to doing the monthly billing for long-distance calling and even announcing the weekly cattle auctions.
A few years after graduating from Schleswig High School, she got on the train and moved from Schleswig to San Diego, CA. After checking California out, she moved back to Schleswig briefly. Since there were no jobs available at that time, she moved back to California and made Anaheim her forever home.
Agnes retired after 33 years of working in banking. She started out as “the one who swept the floor and checked the outdoors for junk in the flower beds” and worked her way to Vice President, Manager of that same bank in Brea, CA!
She and her husband John were both pilots and loved to travel by plane or car to many places in the US and around the world. She was a good historian about all their trips (and family history). When not on some travel adventure, Agnes enjoyed time as a member and president of the Soroptimists of Brea and La Habra. She was also one of the early lady presidents of the Brea Chamber of Commerce and various other clubs. She and John also worked together as a team for the Mooney Pilots Association and the Bonanza Pilot Proficiency group helping pilots maintain their proficiency status across the US and in Madrid, Spain.
Agnes ended her earthly journey on Monday, April 10, 2023, at her home with family present. She was 92 years old. She leaves behind her brother Al (Connie) Bosse, and sister Barbara Schmidt, along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Agnes is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Porter, her parents Albert and Eleanor Bosse, sister Irene Krueger, nephew Douglas Roecker and other relatives and long-time friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Agnes to Shriners Hospitals for Children."*" indicates required fields
