Reception to FollowEdward Rey went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2024. He was born on November 15, 1934, in La Carlota City, Philippines, and lived a life rich in accomplishments, love, and faith.
Rey was an extraordinary man who demonstrated discipline and leadership from a young age. He was a proud Corps Commander in high school, and was a Master in Arnis. His expertise in mixed martial arts was equivalent to 6th Dan. Rey loved ballroom dancing and won competitions, especially in tango and paso doble. A lifelong learner, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at West Negros University, which set the foundation for his remarkable career.
At the age of 21, Rey married the love of his life, Franceli Ramos, on December 20, 1954. Together, they raised a family of three children and served their community. Rey was a passionate leader, serving as President of the Purok Federation, where he advocated for the welfare of seven Puroks for seven years. He dedicated 26 years as the Head of Security of La Carlota Sugar Central, ensuring the safety of the workforce and the operations of the facility.
In 1986, Rey and Franceli immigrated to the United States, where he worked as an estate manager in Beverly Hills and later as a security officer for 12 years. His work ethic and dedication to his duties were matched only by his deep commitment to his faith. A founding member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in 1992, he served as a Deacon before becoming Pastor of Missions in 2004. He enjoyed leading Sunday school classes, Bible study groups, and writing his weekly “Food for Thought” reflections, which touched the hearts of many.
Rey found peace and purpose in his Christian faith, devouring the Bible and Christian literature, and sharing his wisdom with others. He loved listening to music and singing along to Elvis Presley, and watching martial arts and action movies.
Even in his final days, he continued to share the Gospel with his live-in nurse in the Philippines and visiting nurse in the US. He was overjoyed when they made the decision to follow Jesus Christ.
Rey was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, and son, Elrey. He is survived by his beloved wife, Franceli Jover, their daughters, three siblings, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and treasured.
Though he will be missed, his legacy will live on through those he inspired and helped.
