Greg Wingert was a devoted, hardworking, and affectionate man who consistently put others before himself. After a courageous nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on November 16, 2024. Greg was born to Jim and Toni Wingert on April 24, 1963, in Orange, California. As the only son among six sisters, he found himself right in the middle of the family lineup. His childhood was filled with fond memories of teasing his sisters—sometimes to the point of tears—but more often creating a home full of laughter and love. By age 9, Greg was already helping out at the family business, Anaheim Glass. By 16, he’d head straight from school to jump into a glass truck and install glass. It was during his junior year of high school at the shop that he met a new employee, Debbie Kelley. Their friendship quickly blossomed into romance. Greg proposed during a family vacation at Lake Topaz, and at 21, they married. They recently celebrated 40 wonderful years of marriage this past September. As a dad to Amie, Nick, and Matt, Greg was loving, funny, and completely devoted. He was an active father who supported his children in all their endeavors. He worked tirelessly to ensure his kids could attend St. Paul’s Lutheran and Orange Lutheran High School for a quality Christian education. To that end, he often spent late nights and weekends in his home workshop, building and repairing stained glass. This wasn’t just work for Greg—it was a gift of love and a reflection of how much he valued his children’s faith and future. For Greg, life wasn’t just about working for the weekend; he worked for family vacations at Lake Topaz. His passion for the lake, the cherished memories made there, and the lifelong friendships formed were a huge gift to the family. That love for the lake has carried on through five generations, with his children now bringing their own families to continue the tradition he so adored. Greg was also an active member of his church community, serving in men’s ministry, Bible study, and as an elder. In everything Greg did, his faith and dependence on God set a powerful example for others. He truly reflected the light and love of Christ to everyone he encountered. As the third-generation owner of Anaheim Glass, Greg dedicated 45 years to the family business, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Known for his craftsmanship and care for his employees, Greg upheld the shop’s legacy through challenges like the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Through it all, Greg believed that God guided Anaheim Glass through those difficulties, and he was a shining example of faith to both his employees and customers. Greg cherished his role as “Grandpa Greg” to eight grandchildren: Gregory (4) and Raileigh (13); Savannah (7), Rebekah (6), and Briella (4); Grace (9), James (6), and Ellise (3). He loved teaching them to water ski at Lake Topaz and creating memories that will live on through them. Greg’s life was one of unwavering love, faith, and service. His legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.
