Garden Grove, CaliforniaPeggy Ann Woelke, aka, Peggy Sue, Mom, Grandma, heeded God’s call on Saturday, January 15, 2022. She will be remembered by so many for her positivity, love of life, and generosity. She let go of this life after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s to join her mother, Martha, her father, Howard, and husband John, in God’s loving arms. Her legacy of positivity and love continues in her daughter, Debi and her partner Donna; son, Roy and his wife Suzie; her grandchildren, Amy and Aaron; and four great grandchildren. When asked, “what makes you proud”, she answered, “that so many call me Mom!”. She was that and so much more to so many. Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1933, she was a Texan and Southern Baptist through and through. She went to Baylor University studying music and religion receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1954 while occasionally acting and singing in university plays. She met and married John Woelke while in college and they celebrated 48 years together until his passing in 2002. They followed John’s career and moved their young family to California in the early 1960s eventually settling in Huntington Beach. Peggy loved make-up and clothing and was always immaculately dressed and appointed so she joined Vanda Cosmetics in 1967 as a Beauty Counselor selling and giving make-up consultations to hundreds of women. This endeavor led her to meet her lifelong best friend, Donna Jones, whom she thought of as her sister. People took notice of this dynamic duo, and they were asked to make-up and consult for the Miss Anaheim and the Miss Orange County Beauty Pageants. To compliment her knowledge and expertise in beauty she started a second business for a women’s line of clothing called Bee-Line. Peggy was deeply religious and spiritual donating her time, effort, love, and financial support to God and the church. As a teenager, she worked answering the phone and taking messages for the church, singing in the choir, and playing piano for the services. She found her home and great love at the Crystal Cathedral in the 80’s. She was a member of the Crystal Cathedral Choir and loved Robert Schuller’s Hour of Power Program. She was very involved in the church’s care ministries and led the Southern California Chapter for Alzheimer’s meetings at the Cathedral. She specialized in comforting and advising caregivers, as she had learned so much taking care of her husband John, who had Alzheimer’s for years. A sports enthusiast, she was an avid Angels fan and a big supporter of the Fullerton College Hornets women’s basketball team where Debi coached for many years. Peggy treasured her time with family and friends, enjoying many wonderful trips and cruises all over the world. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to UCI Mind (https://mind.uci.edu) or Alzheimer’s Orange County (https://act.alzoc.org). Memorial services will be held on February 15 at 11:00 am at Cathedral Memorial Gardens in Garden Grove with a reception immediately following.
