Maria Dolores DeCasas
In Memoriam
Maria Dolores DeCasas, was born the third of seventeen children of Jose G. Felipe and Guadalupe Mendoza Felipe on February 27, 1946. A lifelong resident of Placentia, she skipped Kindergarten and went on to graduate from Valencia High School and attended Fullerton College, earning her Associate Degree. Dolores worked for Fender Guitars in Fullerton, catching quick glimpses of famous musicians, and also for CSUF as a Secretary in the Languages Department. Before retiring in May 2016, Dolores worked for +25 years in the Anaheim Elementary School District as an Office Coordinator. She enjoyed being of service to her community. Dolores, known to her family and friends as Lola, put her love and energy into raising her family, spending time with her Granddaughter Camille, trying new recipes, crocheting hats for Camille’s teammates, keeping up with current events and technology, and learning something new every day. Lola’s moral compass always pointed due North and never wavered. She attended St. Anthony Claret Church regularly after sending her children to school there from K-8 grades and she believed faithfully in the everlasting life offered by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her loyalty and devotion to her family was steadfast and shall endure. Free of bodily trappings, Lola is likely enjoying mariachi music, dancing to some Wilson Pickett or Rick James, cruising to some Lowrider Oldies, humming, spontaneously singing Hallelujah and visiting with all of the dearly departed who have already gone to their rest. She will be forever missed by those who loved and cared for her. After fighting like a champion through a short period of illness, Dolores passed on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, with her children, Monica DeCasas Patterson and Daniel R. DeCasas, at her side. Despite COVID-19 hospital restrictions, her children fulfilled their promise to be with her as her battle came to an end. Monica and Daniel thank her for all she did, and they could not be prouder to descend from Dolores, who commanded respect because she respected herself. Lola was predeceased by her parents, her brothers John and Andrew, and her sisters Rebecca and Pearl Melendez. Her survivors include: her children, Monica and Daniel; Son-in-law Jeffrey Patterson; Granddaughter Camille; sisters Rose Marie Espinoza, Mary Lou Liptrapp, Mary Ann Morales, Yolanda Chambers, Deborah Garcia, Cynthia Johnson, Janet and Irene Felipe; brothers Joseph, Rudolph, Ronald and Timothy Felipe; paternal Aunt Margarita Duncan and paternal Uncle John Felipe; cousins and friends.
