Carol Bambi Burnes
In Memoriam
Our incredible and amazing mom, Bambi Burnes, passed away Sept. 2nd, at 9pm. She had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer back in early May and she valiantly fought the good fight. She underwent chemo, etc., over the last 4 months, but it was unfortunately too far gone. She died exactly like she lived her life, all on her own terms. She was a gymnast, a dancer, and a circus aerialist. She also performed a death-defying “Iron Jaw” act, suspended only by her teeth several stories in the air. She met dad while both were performing on Ringling Bros. during the ’50s and ’60s. After they married, they relocated to southern California and jumped onto a variety of traveling circuses and arena shows, including the epic Disney On Parade. The family blossomed to include me and my younger brother, Richard, and the four of us continued to hop all over the world, including all 50 states multiple times, along with tours in Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. She did so much and taught us to do the same, living life to its fullest. And now she is at rest and no longer in any pain. During this year, family surrounded her chair or her bedside, 24/7, and we felt so lucky and honored to be there for her, holding her hand, letting her know how much she was loved, and for her to tell us how much we were loved, and to let us know just how proud she was of all of us. If there was any silver lining to a world enmeshed in a pandemic, it was that we were able to be together, for Mom, for her time. Her own story coming to its end felt surreal and beautiful in its own unique way. We love you so much, Mom. Thank you for bringing us into the world and allowing us to continue the adventure you started. Much love to everyone, her many, many friends, and her extended family far and wide."*" indicates required fields
