Monica Kurtz went to be with the Lord following end stage pulmonary hypertension at age 77. Monica passed away at Kaiser Anaheim Hospital with her husband by her side. Monica was born in Seattle, WA and he parents Major Harold Hines and Margaret Hines and younger sister Margaret Awbery predeceased her. The family in early years lived in Seattle, Nebraska, and Colorado and in 1955 they moved to Downey, CA. Monica graduated from Santa Fe Springs High school in 1960 where she was the class valedictorian. She attended Cerritos College and Fullerton College. Monica worked for a few years for Davis-Walker Wire Corporation in Commerce, CA. In August 1963 Monica and Larry Kurtz were both living in the same apartment complex in Downey, CA and they met in the swimming pool. Larry was employed at North American Aviation in Downey and was taking tests to become a police officer. On February 1, 1964 they were married in Downey and on February 24, 1964 Larry was hired onto the Anaheim Police Department. Monica and Larry soon moved to Anaheim and eventually moved to four different homes in Anaheim. They were married for over 56 years and had two wonderful children Kathy and Larry Jr. They were very proud of their two children as Kathy graduated from the University of Southern California and Larry Jr. graduated from California State University Fullerton. Kathy worked for a number of years for two different law firms recruiting new attorneys still in law school. Larry Jr. today is a Captain on the Orange County Fire Authority. Kathy married Joe Yaffe and attorney in Northern California and their two children, Bradley attends University of Oregon and Kaitlyn will graduate from high school in 2021. Younger sister Margaret Awbery passed on in 2014 and husband David Awbery and two boys Dan and Jim live in the northern California area. Older brother of Monica, Harold Hines lives and works in Las Vegas and his son John Hines lives and works in Washington DC. Monica in 1969 started doing income tax returns and accounting. She became an Enrolled Agent a difficult rating to obtain from the US Internal Revenue. In 1971 she opened her own tax and accounting firm called Monica Kurtz and Associates. She had an office in East Anaheim with many employees. In 2000 she sold the business to one of her long time employees and retired. it is still called Monica Kurtz and Associates. Over the years Monica and Larry enjoyed ocean cruises and they have taken over 31 cruises throughout the US and the world. Traveling was one of their past times. Monica was known for her laughing and caring ways for everyone she met. She will be sorely missed by her family."*" indicates required fields
